Offered here is a very rare 17th century carved Walrus Ivory statue of Saint Anthony of Padua holding a book with the figure of the Christ child atop. It has original polychrome coloring and stands 7-1/4 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches at the widest point between the outreaching arms, and approximately 2-1/4 inches in diameter at the base. Changes to the original listing are due my error in identifying the material used not being Narwhal, but Walrus.
The carving is attributed to the Hispano-Philippine school of the early to mid 1600s.
CONDITION: The right arm of the Christ child is missing, there is a small loss of material of the left rear shoulder of the Saint Anthony, and his left hand has a small repair.
Cracks are apparent due to the nature and age of the material, and there is some loss of pigment . Otherwise, very good details and condition.
